The Church Magazine
The HERALD" December 2010
From the Editor
At the Church Council meeting in October, I gave a letter to the secretary informing the council that I would be retiring from the position of editor, after the production of the December Herald. 2010.
I would like to thank my sister-in-law Sheila, who has helped with the printing and collating of every issue, and never once said she was to busy. Also Derek Nelson, who when he was available always cheerfully worked along side us, not forgetting Dorothy Ogden, who when the magazine is finished makes sure they are ready for church members to pick up at church for delivery I would also like to thank the regular contributors for their support.
Over two hundred heralds are printed, they are posted to friends all over the country and also abroad, many are hand delivered locally. Thank you to the people who over the years have telephoned me or written, your kindness has always been very much appreciated.
The position of Editor is now available, the next edition due March 2011. Thank you Anne ‘O Come let us adore Him’ ‘CHRIST THE LORD!’
On Christmas Day, we awoke early, to stare at the pillowcase and ‘Santa Bag’ bulging with presents and on the end of the bed was a stocking filled with nuts, fruit and three old pennies (~1p!). We were delighted! ‘Santa’s been’, we shouted as we scurried into mum and dad’s bedroom and clambered into their double bed. ‘Choose one present’ we were told. We did and then opened it while mum and dad drank their tea. Breakfast followed, Christmas presents were lugged downstairs to the lounge, where the coal fire was lit, which warmed our faces into a rosy glow. No central heating in those days, when ice formed on the inside of the single glazed windows!
Then we stopped and read from the Bible – a verse or two each from Matthew or Luke – until we had read the whole story of the birth of Jesus. Only then did mum get out her pencil and paper and we opened our gifts in turn. Grandma and Granddad, Nana and Grandpa visited us to open a present and enjoy a tipple of Advocat or sherry (!) before Christmas lunch. We watched The Queen and then had a chance to play the new games, watch a James Bond film and then to bed – tired and happy!
Memories of Christmas – perhaps also longing for Christmas past when games weren’t battery powered or electronic (except the train set, of course!) and when life seemed much simpler.
How much simpler it must have been when Jesus Christ was born – no celebration then, just a census and a cold night.
The Rehearsal One of the kings has stage fright An angel has broken her wing Mary has just dropped the baby Thank heaven it’s not the real thing
Two of the shepherds are fighting The inn keepers never on cue, Joseph, keeps disappearing, They say he’s gone to the loo.
Tomorrow it should be better, Or it could be worse than today, Still everyone’s going to love it The infant Nativity Play
“Hw can we Celebrate Christmas” How can we celebrate Christmas, In a world so troubled and torn Where men, who were made in His image, are forgetting that Jesus was born Born to bring peace where there’s conflict Born to bring love where there’s hate Born to die for the sinner, and open the heavenly gate. To all who will kneel before Him, Who was born in a humble stall To all who will stop and listen, and come when they hear Him call Oh, how can we celebrate Christmas, today on this war torn earth? By living with Him and sharing with others. The Good News of His birth. Alice Hansche Mortenson These two poems were submitted by Derek Nelson
“Seasons Greetings”
May you have the spirit of ChristmasWhich is peace
The Gladness of Christmas which is hope
The heart of Christmas which is love.
To all our friends from everyone at
Kearsley Mount Methodist Church
Wishing you Peace and Happiness in the New Year Christmas Eve
Of all the nights, In each and every year, this one is special, Time seemingly stands still.
Remembering when – Eternity collided with the present Thus reshaping history; Life could never be the same again …
The Creator chose – To do things in such a way, A plan of salvation For this soiled earth …
Chose to be born, As a helpless child In a cattle crib On that first Christmas night.
A message that – Stuns the brain, Stirs the soul, Gladdens the heart, As we marvel at the magnitude of God’s love!
The beginning of December marks the start of Advent and we will sing ‘Hark the glad sound, the Saviour comes’. Advent is a time of preparation for the coming the Christ, a time for quiet reflection – thinking of all that it meant for God to enter fully into the confines of this place of tears and sadness. Yet, God comes gladly, His angels pronounce restored.
A few days after His birth, Jesus was taken to the Temple and there He was met by Simeon and Anna, two people who had lived in the Temple for many years – waiting for the Christ-child. This poem speaks of Simeon’s thoughts: The old man spoke, his eyes full of wonder. He said, ‘For all these long Decembers All these Advents I waited and hoped and longed for the Christ-child.’ But it was only on this Christmas night, As I knelt by the crib I realized, after all these years, His greater, deeper, truer longing for me. (Anthea Dove) God’s longing for us is even greater than our longing for Him – as God seeks a home within our hearts. Christmas is the time when God gave His greatest gift to us. Will we receive Him? This Child, who secretly comes in the night and becomes the Saviour of the world, This Child. who dies to show us that love lives and conquers sin and fear, because ‘His grace is sufficient for all’
In the New Year, at Kearsley Mount, may we all recommit ourselves to reading His Word, praying for spiritual growth and offering prayers of thankfulness for all that God has done.
Have A Very Blessed Christmas and A Happy New Year Love from Rev. Stephen and Heather THANK YOU A huge thank you to ALL of the Fellowship at Kearsley Mount for all of your hard work during this last year - you are real stars, who have given generously of your time and work for the glory of God and God’s Kingdom. May God lead us all onwards in this coming year – to His greater glory. A very special thank you from Rev Stephen A Little boy opened the big and old family Bible, with fascination, looking at the old pages as he turned them. Then something fell out of the Bible, he picked it up and looked at it closely. It was an old leaf from a tree that had been pressed between the pages. “Mummy look what I have found,” the boy called out “What have you got there dear?” his mother asked With astonishment in the young boy’s voice, he answered. “It’s Adams suit!! God’s whisper to me. God whispered in my ear one day, and said how it should be. I shrugged and turned away, and said, “No way, you can’t mean me” Next time it wasn’t a whisper, He spoke quite clear and loud He had a job for me to do. He said, have faith, don’t fear. So I took the challenge offered, but how should I begin? This task was much too big for me. I had to trust in Him
When the problems overwhelmed me, and I couldn’t see my way I’d put my faith and hope in Him Fall to my knees and pray My God, He never failed me, through good days And through bad. He filled me with courage, I never knew I had, So if you feel God calling you, don’t doubt and answer “no” He knows the plans He has for you. Step out in faith and go
Xmas Day Why take Christ out of Christmas And call it Xmas day Send Christmas cards with holly on, Or Santa in his sleigh?
Just think of the reason for Christmas When you wake on Christmas morn. For this is a very special day It’s the day when Jesus was born.
O, why take the Christ Out of Christmas When you sing of Bethlehem, Of Jesus, Mary and Joseph The Shepherds and the Wise Men?
Let’s put Christ back into Christmas As we celebrate His birth With joy and love to all nations And A Christmas peace to all People on earth

A New Year Prayer. Dear Lord, please give me, a few friends, who understand me And remain my friends A work to do, which has real value, without which the world would be poorer. A mind unafraid to travel, even though the trail may not be blazed. An understanding heart, a sense of humour, time for quiet. Silent meditation, a feeling for the presence of God. Life Is Like
Life is like the wind, you never know which way it will blow.
Life is like the sun, it can be hidden or it can glow.
Life is like an echo, a slow repeated phrase,
A mimic of another, a confusing path or maze,
Life is like a story, waiting to unfold.
Although sometimes a mystery is better left untold,
Most would sit and wonder about the path they wish to take,
Some love to wait and see, some are impatient just like me
But it really does not matter one way or another,
You’re not going to find out you may as well not bother.
You’re life will stay a mystery until the final hour,
You do not need to know so you don’t need magic powers.
So wipe that fortune cookie nonsense right out of your head.
Make friends, live life, have fun and no more will be said.

Kearsley Mount Strollers.
We started our Saturday morning walks on the 25th September. It was a circular walk from Rivington Barn to Yarrow and Anglezarke reservoirs, then back alongside Upper Rivington Reservoir to the Barn. We were very lucky with the weather; it was a lovely sunny autumn day. We ended the walk with a lunch at Curlys Fisheries, Horwich. All had a good time Ten people enjoyed the 4.0-mile walk
Our second walk was on the 23rd October. The walk was at Pennington Flash Country Park. The morning started very wet which meant fewer people attended, when we arrived at Pennington, the weather changed and we had a pleasant walk, around the country park, stopping at the bird hides, showing Benedict our German friend from St John Fisher the bird life. Harold and Mary’s son was visiting home, and also joined us on the walk. We had a pleasant lunch at Barton Grange Garden Centre. 7 people enjoyed the 4.5-mile walk.
The next Saturday walk will be on the 11th December.
I didn’t do all the summer evening walks, these are the one’s I went on. 28th July. We walked from the Horseshoe Pub towards Clifton, then uphill onto the Outwood Trail, and on to Radcliffe, then along the canal to Knob End and back along the lower canal to our cars and home, 5.2miles.
4th August. This one was a nice easy walk around Entwistle Reservoir, followed by a stop at The White Horse Edgworth. 2.5 miles. 18th August Tonight the walk started from Smithills Coach House car park, we walked to Barrow Bridge; we met a nice elderly couple who reminisced how Barrow Bridge used to be. It was very interesting listening to them. We walked back past Moss Bank Park, then down the road by the old chimney, down to Smithills Deane Road, and back to the Coach House for refreshments. 3.1 mile.
25th August. Sorry I didn’t do a write up 8 people attended walking 4.0 miles.
1st September. We walked from the Horseshoe Pub towards Clifton, then up onto the Outwood trail to Outwood Rd, then back to the cars. 10 people attended walking 4.0 miles
Please come along and enjoy the walk on the 11th December, meet at St John Fisher Car park at 9-30am.

The Herald October 2010 Stranger On The Shore.
Hymns & Psalms 631. Verse 1. Awake; awake to love and work, The lark is in the sky, The fields are wet with diamond dew, The worlds awake to cry. Their blessings on the Lord of life, As he goes meekly by.
On the shore of the sea, its early morning, that bright dewy sunrise that tells you it’s going to be a hot day, the bees are buzzing and birds are singing. The fishing boat is on its way back to land, a stranger stands on the shore and calls out, drop your nets again on the right side! What would your response be to a stranger telling you to do it differently! But this is no stranger, its Jesus! He is no stranger to our lives; He knows our every breath, every heartbeat, the hairs on your head. He hears every thought no matter how fleeting! Jesus loves you, intimately, passionately. He died in our place, and now in this his third resurrection appearance to the disciples, appears on the shore. They have returned to what they were doing before, as though the three years with Him had made no difference. But that’s not true, John recognises Jesus, Peter takes action to be near Him! The truth is Jesus is always there by our side, it’s our actions that make us strangers to Him, but Jesus is only a prayer away. His appearance on the shore tells us that after the resurrection, returning to our old ways is no longer good enough. We are called to follow Him, to journey into the future, confident in His power and love, but we must make sure we are in line with His plans, His direction!
As you read this Heather and I will be nearing the end of our holiday on The Isles of Scilly, beautiful unspoilt coastline, fresh, bright sunshine, relaxing, and Heather with her cream teas!
Meeting friends on the island, praying with them and studying God’s word with them. The natural beauty of the scenery and the blue of the sea and sky reminding us of the majesty of our God. At the end of that story in John 21, Jesus and Peter have an intimate conversation, Peter is re commissioned three times to follow Jesus and feed His lambs. Let us focus on the call of one who was once a stranger, but is now our Saviour; Jesus Christ our Lord!
God Bless you, richly in Jesus Name. Love from Rev Stephen and Heather.

The Organist. At times she feels tired and weary and old, When a dark winter morning is gloomy and cold. Or when she just wants to relax in the sun. Thinking, no, that’s enough, now my life’s work is done.
Her fingers gnarled now, and some time’s they’re sore. She wonders, “Will the music spring forth anymore?” They are stiff, and yet somehow, when she takes her seat. The music does echo, it’s glorious and sweet.
Young couples approach her and pleadingly say, “Play Love Divine for us on our wedding day” Mourners take comfort and solace in prayer. When “Abide with me,” floats through the air.
Glad Christmas Carols and rapt Easter praise. Seem all the more sweet when the organist plays. There are some who would say that the meaning of grace. Can be read in that wise kindly smile on her face. Taken from a Church Magazine submitted by Jean Haslam2.

The Ritz Tea
On Wednesday the 12th May, fifty seven guests enjoyed once again, afternoon tea, it is two years since we enjoyed our first attempt at this event, forty people came on that occasion. Now with our new facilities, we decided we could ask more people if they would like to come. Sixty was our limit; unfortunately three people couldn’t make it on the day. Once again everyone entered into the spirit of the occasion, the ladies looked lovely, and the gentlemen very smart. Stephen Tonge once again, welcomed everyone as they arrived. . We decided this time, during the meal as before Craig Mann, would play appropriate music, followed afterwards by a trip to Blackpool Tower Ballroom, for dancing, Craig played on the organ for this, which sounded better than the one in the tower, it was a joy to see everyone dancing, or sitting listening. How fortunate are we to have someone as talented as Craig, who will take the time to come along and make a lot of people very happy. The money raised for Church funds was £372.44 We are once again indebted to the people who baked for us, also donations towards the expenses, Sheila and myself are forever grateful to the waitresses, who work with us preparing the food, setting out the room, that looked every bit as good as the Ritz and remaining cheerful, this time seven of us, without these ladies the event could not take place. Eileen, Wendy, Dorothy, Renee and Josie you are stars, thank you so much. With all the compliments on what a memorable day it was, I think we will need you again in the future. Anne and Sheila
The Food Rededication Service. February 28th was the chosen day A small group of people volunteered to plan the event, we were asked to provide the food, no problem we had catered for fifty previously, so happily said yes. At the first meeting of the group, the Rev’d Stephen Radford said he hoped around three hundred people would attend, we discussed all other aspects of the service, lots to do and plan, when we came out of the meeting, we looked at one another and said. “ What have we agreed to”? Our first good news was St Vincent’s Housing Association would give £200.00 towards the cost of the event, brilliant, it was decided £50.00 should go towards the cost of flowers and we were given £150.00. We decided no way could we serve afternoon tea without asking people to bake, we were overwhelmed by the response, at one of our meetings we had had the promise of 220 portions of cake and 100 scones, plus 120 portions of quiche, all homemade, this included offers of baking from one or two men. Our information at this stage was that we had only received sixty replies to invitations. Scary! Not downhearted we carried on. Many Thanks to St Anne’s Church Clifton, Trinity Church Farnworth and Clegg’s Lane Methodist Church, Little Hulton for the generous loan of cups and saucers, and teapots, as the date drew nearer our menu was decided, shopping list written. We spent sometime of every day the week before at church, most of the time surrounded by workmen. Just to add to the heady mix, we were also printing and collating the March Herald. We had decided to have two buffets of 150 each, the balcony guests in the new community room and 150 served in the lecture room from the church, the only problem being, not a floor board had been laid in the community room till the Wednesday, and the new very large window doors, didn’t start to go in till Thursday. Saturday morning Judith and David picked us up, and we went shopping, the boot of the car packed, we arrived at Church It looked amazing, when we had left on Friday the workmen were still working on the second window and had almost finished the floor. From the start the renovation of the church has been blessed by some very willing and hardworking people, who had a vision of how Kearsley Mount could move forward into the future, and hopefully welcome the community to worship and also use a very beautiful building for lots of activities. The people know whom they are, to many to mention, but what happened from Friday to Saturday was a miracle. 10am Sunday morning, we arrived at Church, our cheerful band of workers, arrived to set out the rooms and prepare the food. Still catering for 300, we just hoped and prayed the people would come. 1pm home to get ready, back by 2pm, final preparations. Our invited guests began to arrive. The Mayor and Lady Mayoress, the former Mayor and Lady Mayoress. Representatives of everyone connected to the building works, clergy from other churches, our own clergy who had been our ministers in the past. The Rev’d David King, and local preachers. The church began to fill with lots and lots of people, some who had travelled long distances, many with connections to the church, when they were young.
“Goodness would there be enough food to go round”
It was a wonderful service, the singing amazing, the organ was a joy to listen to, played by Gareth Evans, who kindly played so that our organist could partake in the handing over of the keys back from the builders to the church Thank you so much to everyone who helped us in any way, the comments about the food, have all been positive, we spent £149 .05, considering the tempting display of delicious food on offer, that’s pretty amazing. We could not have done it without the generous donations of all the lovely homemade food. For all the support we received Thank you.

Mother’s Day Poem. They were lovely, all the mothers of the days of long ago With their gentle, quiet faces and hair as white as snow. They were middle aged at forty, at fifty donned lace caps, And at sixty clung to shoulder shawls, and loved little naps. But I love the modern mother, who can share in all our joys. And who understands the problems of her growing girls and boys. She may boast that she is older, but her heart is twenty-three. My glorious bright-eyed mother, who is keeping young with me.

And God there is one more thing, I wish that you could do; Hope you don’t mind me asking, please bless my computer too. Now I know that it’s unusual, to bless a motherboard. But listen just a second, while I explain it to you Lord. You see that little metal box holds more than odds and ends Inside those small compartments are so many of my friends.
I know so much about them by the kindness that they give. And this little scrap of metal, takes me to where they live. By faith is how I know them, much the same as you We share in what life brings us, from that our friendship grew Please take an extra minute, from your duties up above
To bless those in my address book, that’s filled with so much love, Wherever else this prayer may reach, to each and every friend. Bless each e-mail inbox, and each person who hits send.
When you update your heavenly list, on your own Great C D.ROM Bless everyone who says this prayer. Sent up to GOD.COM Amen This was sent to me by e-mail from Margaret Booth

“Be still and know that I am God” My shoes depressed the rain soaked moss and glistening grass. Footsteps hushed in the stillness of the trees, until passing through, I came into the open, and like a rich symphonic cord falling on the ears. My eyes were assailed with colours that sang; Chromatic scales of gold, yellow amber, red brown and green, raised in praise to their Creator. (Frank Topping)
As I sit here this afternoon, the most magnificent double rainbow circles outside my window- inscribed on a dark grey sky, as the low sun lights the few leaves left on the trees. Yes God is good- His creation sings His praises; and yet, at this time of the year, the signs of life ebb away to leave the bare skeletons of trees and bushes etched onto the pale grey and gold winter sky, the bare earth is brown and ploughed- waiting- still and cold, cobwebs and frost, berries eaten by the wintering birds! For me, the winter is the perfect season for the King of kings to be born. What was a barren earth awaited His birth- the life that is the light of the world! The season of Advent is a time of preparation- not for Christmas fripperies and presents, but for the true presence of Jesus Christ- God’s greatest gift to mankind, greater than life itself! A child cries, the angels sing, a mother holds the Creator of the world in her arms. The amazing truth that “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son” is real. That is why it is called CHRISTmas. May the Christ child be born in our hearts again this year; may we embrace the emptiness of winter and “be still and know that He alone is God” Lord Let me reflect the colours of your love; Let my life be bright with laughter, My speech be gentle, My thinking warm, my actions kind. May all I suffer or enjoy In the spectrum of my days. Mellow and blend in peace in love. In praise to You Amen
Stephen Radford.
A really big thanks to everyone who has worked so hard, so that the chapel can reopen. With love from Stephen and Heather
The website www.kearsleymount.co.uk has now been discontinued. The new website address is www.kmmc3c.org.uk. The old website has served us well over the last nine years, in fact we had some 9,500 visits during the year up to September 2009 We felt with a newly refurbished building we should have a new website. The information we can gather with this site should help us with our mission. Stephen Tonge.
Noah’s Ark Everything I need to know I learned from Noah’s Ark through God’s blessing One: Don’t miss the boat Two: Remember we are all in the same boat. Three: Plan ahead it wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark Four: Stay fit. When you are 60 years old someone may ask you to do something really big. Five: Don’t listen to critics, just get on with the job that needs doing. Six: Build your future on high ground, Seven. For safety’s sake travel in pairs. Eight: Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails were on board as well as the cheetahs. Nine: When you are stressed float awhile. Ten: Remember, amateurs built the Ark, the Titanic by professionals. Eleven: No matter how strong the storm, when you are with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting Submitted by Nellie Winstanley sent to her from a friend Judy in Guernsey

To all our friends From everyone Kearsley Mount Methodist Church
The Sunday after Christmas, the Sunday school teacher told her pupils how an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream, warning him about danger to the baby Jesus and telling him how to escape. After the story the pupils were given the opportunity to draw a picture. Most of the pictures were predictable, but Larry’s had an odd element in it. “Larry, I see Joseph and Mary with the baby Jesus on a donkey, but what is that following the donkey? It’s the flea, teacher” “Flea…? Ah what flea?” asked the teacher. To which the boy faithfully repeated the Bible verse “ Take Mary and Joseph and flea to Egypt. There’s Mary. There’s Jesus, and there’s the flea”

A Christmas world beyond the windowMy armchair by the window, like a box above a stage. Reveals the lives of players, like the words upon a page. The Christmas lights are shining, we must thank young Stan for that, his father taught him very well, he’s got the job off pat. Mr King the butcher has had many sleepless nights. Working on the meat to make the festive dinner right Tons of chipolatas and sausage meat for rolls Along with lots of turkeys says that he’s achieved his goals Here’s little Sally Thompson, she’s got that sledge again She pulls it by a piece of string and prays for snow not rain. Her little eyes are shining, peeping just above her scarf I like to watch her every day and hear her tinkling laugh
What’s left of the minister is walking now below. The poor man is exhausted, but he’s happy still, you know He’s worked so hard for Christmas, but you won’t here him complain, he say’s it’s really worth it and he’d do it all again. Oh, now here is the donkey he’s off to the village hall They’re having a nativity and welcome one and all Carol Smith is Mary and for Joseph they have Len Baby Jesus will be Dave and Ellie’s new son, Ben There are so many angels and it’s easy to believe. That noble kings and wise men, also shepherds grow on trees. It doesn’t really matter; they’ll be gathered there in peace Just for once, all squabbling and bickering will cease So come and have some mulled wine, sit and watch the world with me. It’s cosy here in my armchair, beside the Christmas tree. It’s time for friends to celebrate the birth of a very special baby, who brought love to us on earth.

We sometimes forget at Christmas the meaning that it holds, When we’re busy with arrangements as so quickly it unfolds.
Yet, Christmas really is a time to think about that day. When a little child was born in a land far away
For, this child had a destiny that’s not easy to define for, he was sent To make a difference to the lives of all mankind.
He was the Saviour of the world and, although it was long ago. The peace and joy he brought is still there for us to know.
So as the heavenly Angels sing out their sweet refrain. May the peace He brought be with you as Christmas comes again.
Submitted by Phyllis Fielding Crabby Old Man What do you see nurses? What do you see? What are you thinking when you’re looking at me? A crabby old man, not very wise, uncertain of habit with faraway eyes, who dribbles his food, and makes no reply when you say in a loud voice. “I do wish you’d try” Who seems not to notice the things that you do, and forever is losing a sock or a shoe. Who resisting or not, lets you do as you will, with bathing and feeding the long day to fill. Is that what you’re thinking? Is that what you see? Then open your eyes nurse; you’re not looking at me. I’ll tell you who I am as I sit here so still, as I do at your bidding, as I eat at your will. I’m a small child at ten, with a father and mother, brothers and sisters who love one another. A young boy of sixteen with wings on his feet, dreaming that soon a lover he’ll meet. A groom soon at twenty, my heart gives a leap, remembering the vows that I promised to keep At twenty-five, I have young of my own who need me to guide. A man of thirty, my young now grown fast, bound to each other with ties that should last. At forty, my young sons have grown and are gone, but my women’s beside me to see I don’t mourn. At fifty, once more babies to play around my knee, again we know children, my loved one and me. Dark day’s are upon me, my wife is now dead. I look at the future and shudder with dread, for my young are all rearing young of their own. And I think of the years and the love I have known. I’m now an old man and nature is cruel. Do not make old age look like a fool, the body it crumbles, grace and vigour departs. There is now a stone where once I had a heart. But inside this old carcass, a young guy still dwells, and now and again My battered heart swells, I remember the joys, and I’m loving and living life over again I think of all the years all too few, gone too fast and accept the stark fact. that nothing can last, so open your eyes, people open and see. Not a crabby old man. Look closer see me!! Remember this poem when you see an older person. Submitted by Stephen Tonge

My Christmas List.
I have a list of folk I know all written in a book, and every year at Christmas time I go and take a look. For that is when I realise that these names are now a part, not of the book they are written in, but of my very heart. For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime. In that meeting they’ve become the rhythm of the rhyme. It may seem fantastic for me to make this claim, but I really feel I am composed of each remembered name. Even if you may not be aware of my special link, just meeting you has shaped my life, more than you may ever think. For once you’ve met somebody, the years cannot erase, the memories of a friendly face. So never think my Christmas greeting is just mere routine, of names upon a Christmas list forgotten in between When I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you. It’s because you’re on the list of folk I am indebted to, for I am but a total of the many folk I’ve met, and you are also one of those I prefer not to forget. Whether I Have known you for many days, or few, in some ways you have had a part in shaping things I do. For every year when Christmas comes I realise anew. The best of gifts that life can give is meeting folk like you. So may the spirit of Christmas that forever and ever endures. Leave its richest blessings in the hearts of you and yours.

The Secret I met God in the morning, when my day was at it’s best, and His presence came like sunrise, like a glory in my breast.
All day long the presence lingered, all day long He stayed with me, as we sailed in perfect calmness, o’er a very troubled sea.
So I think I know the secret, learned from many a troubled way, you must seek Him in the morning. If you want Him through the day Submitted by Janet Taylor.
Christmas Expectations The child in every one of us wants happily ever afterWants holly, sleigh bells, love and peace, the sound of children’s laughter
We hurry to the festive stores, the land of milk and honey and buy our Christmas, tinsel-wrapped and part with all our money.
Then when we come to Christmas day, our expectations fade although we’ve done the Christmas thing we somehow feel betrayed.
Perhaps we need to give the gifts that money cannot buy our time. A chat, a helping hand- it’s not too hard to try.
And then with practise, well who knows? Perhaps we’ll learn the way To find a little Christmas cheer in each and every day. Author UnknownChurch Cleaning Until the second phase is finished our church is relying on the good will of a few willing volunteers to keep the church spick and span, if anyone could find the time and energy to come along and wield a duster or do a spot of polishing it would be very much appreciated. Unfortunately we don’t have a good fairy that will do it for us, it’d down to the kindness of good folks, many thanks to the people already involved. Anne & Sheila
